The new Volvo XC90 has been announced, featuring refinements to the exterior and interior, including more sophisticated lines and materials.
Launched in 2002, the Volvo XC90 offered practicality and seven seat versatility. 2010 saw sales reach nearly 7000 units, and more than 37,000 units across the world. The new Volvo Xc90 will be available to order from October 2011.
"The XC90 still boasts all the virtues that have made it one of our most successful models ever. The spacious and flexible crossover combines excellent handling and comfort with superior get-you-there ability and flexibility. Now we have upgraded the XC90 with a number of features that emphasise the large SUV's unique blend of sophisticated elegance and capable ruggedness," says Peter Mertens, Senior Vice President Research and Development at the Volvo Car Corporation.
The exterior Volvo XC90 suggests elegance, with a muscular and robust impression. New features include day running light configuration with LEDs in the lower bumper. The metallic bumper bar has been redesigned and is joined by silver roof rails, now included as standard across the range. There is a new lower door moulding with all XC90 models are now colour-coded.
The tail lamps have dual light guides, complete with LED brake lights and silver turn indicator bulbs. A new six-spoke 18 inch wheel is available in a silver matt finish.
The interior has been refined to improve the luxurious feel. Features include the three spoke steering wheel, aluminium decor included as standard and am instrument design with white lighting inspired by a watch-dial. The tailgate, divided into upper and lower sections, new features a colour coordinated leather grab handle.
An Executive specification is available for the Volvo XC90, to include a number of exclusive options including soft leather seats with ventilation and massage.
The Volvo XC90 R-Design is designed to appeal to a driver-focused experience, including a special chassis, redesigned upholstery, inlays, door panels and new Ixion 19 inch wheels.
Volvo's On Call system is available, and can be combined with Bluetooth mobile connectivity. The upgraded system includes music streaming for ma Bluetooth enabled portable music player.
A new mobile application, an extension of Volvo On Call, enables the driver to stay in touch with the parked car, using either an iPhone or Android smart phone.
