Volvo's Convertible Child Seat
Volvo's Convertible Child Seat

As Child Safety Week comes to an end (22nd - 28th June 2009), Volvo Car UK is playing its part to help reduce the chance of children being seriously injured in road accidents by launching a new range of child car seats.

The Volvo Child Car Seat range, protecting newborn infants to children around 10 years of age, even includes a convertible (multi-way) child seat which can be turned around and used either rear facing or forward facing.

In line with Volvo's commitment to the highest levels of safety, all seats have been crash tested and the convertible (multi-way) seat allows a child to be carried safely facing backwards until the age of six, which is an industry breakthrough.

"Children should travel rearward facing for as long as possible which should prevent serious injury in a crash," confirms Jessika Andreasson, Product Manager at Volvo Car Corporation.

"A child's neck is weak and it is still growing, and the head is proportionately larger than that of an adult. When travelling rearward facing, incoming collision forces are spread across the back and head, thus reducing the load on the neck in a frontal impact, which is the most common and often the most dangerous type of collision," she added.

In addition, all seats meet the Oeko-Tex Standard 100, which guarantees they are free from specified allergy-forming substances. All covers are removable and are capable of withstanding the 40 degree cycle in the washing machine.

Volvo's car seat range has been developed in association with Britax and each one is available to order from UK dealers with immediate effect.

Particular attention has been paid to supplying all the necessary fittings and clear written instructions to parents to fit the seat correctly.

"International accident surveys show that one of the most common causes of child injuries or fatalities in traffic is that the child restraint is not properly fitted or the child is not properly secured in the seat," said Helena Larsson, Design Engineer at Volvo Car Corporation.

Infant Seat - Child Safety

The new Volvo infant seat is suitable from birth until approximately one year. The infant seat is installed rearward facing and meets Volvo Cars' exceedingly high demands on safety and comfort. Recommended retail price is £197.33 including VAT. Price includes the infant seat, ISOFIX base and ISOFIX mounting.

Convertible Child Seat

The new Volvo convertible child seat can be used rearward facing from nine months until about six years of age. When the child has outgrown the seat facing rearward, it can be turned forward and then converts into a comfortable highback booster seat. Recommended retail price is £157.76 including VAT.

Booster Seat With Backrest

Volvo Cars' new booster seat with backrest provides high safety and comfort for children from about four until approximately ten years of age. The booster seat is installed with the car's integrated safety belt and helps position the lap belt correctly across the pelvis, protecting the child's soft belly and undeveloped hips. Meanwhile the child travels in comfort and can see better out of the car's windows. Recommended retails price is £96.73 including VAT.
