Volkswagen Touareg Provides British Eventing With Additional Horse Power

Volkswagen’s luxury 4x4 model, the Touareg, will be providing the British Three-day Eventing Team with additional horse power throughout the 2005 season, as its official vehicle supplier.

Volkswagen has provided Olympic gold medallist Leslie Law and Olympic silver medallists Pippa Funnell, William Fox-Pitt, Jeanette Brakewell and Mary King each with a Touareg 4x4, one of the most capable vehicles in its segment.

The Touareg is as impressive on-road as it is in the mud. Its all-round ability combined with excellent towing capacity, make it the ideal car to meet the needs of those involved in equestrian events.

This comprehensive support for eventers, who regularly travel up and down the country between competitions with huge amounts of kit and often a horse box in tow, helps them to continue to perform at the highest level.

Features such as permanent four-wheel drive, low and high gear ratios, electronic traction control linked to an auto-locking centre differential, hill hold function, descent assist and short front and rear overhangs all contribute to class-leading capability when venturing off the beaten track.

This natural fit between product and sport was the foundation of the relationship between Volkswagen and British Eventing.

"I absolutely love my Touareg," commented Pippa Funnell. "It’s a really cool car, so comfortable, easy to tow with and relaxing to drive so we get to places really rested!"

Volkswagen has cemented its commitment to Eventing by agreeing to an active role as the official vehicle at the FEI Blenheim Petplan European Eventing Championships in September (8 to 11). The British team will be going for its sixth successive title.

"Volkswagen is delighted to support British Eventing," said Alan Doyle, Volkswagen’s General Manager Luxury Cars. "The Touareg is designed to deliver class-leading performance both on and off the road. I am confident that driving the Touareg will have a positive impact on the eventers’ performances in competition and hopefully see them win the European Championships."

As well as delivering top-class performance both on and off the road, the Touareg is luxuriously appointed and equipped offering features such as parking sensors, leather upholstery, heated front seats, satellite navigation and a 6-CD autochanger.
