The order books for the new Volkswagen Polo GTI have opened with the first cars due to delivered in March 2015. It is priced from £18,850 for the three-door manual edition, five-door models cost an extra £630, and unlike its predecessor you have the option of a six-manual or for an extra £1245 a seven-speed DSG transmission.
Power comes from a petrol 1.8-litre engine outputting 192 PS between 4,200 - 6,200 rpm (5,400-6,200 DSG). For the manual edition torque is measured at 320 Nm from 1,450 - 4,200 rpm, and for the DSG 250 Nm between 1,250 and 5,300 rpm. The top speed is 146 mph with a 0-62 mph time of 6.7 seconds. The official NEDC combined figures are 47.1 mpg/139 g/km (manual) and 50.4 mpg/129 g/km.
Standard equipment comprises 17-inch ‘Parabolica’ alloy wheels, sports suspension, LED lighting, XDS+ with ESC Sport (electronic stability control).
You can specify your Polo GTI with the Sport Performance Pack which comes with Dynamic Chassis Control which offers sharper steering, accelerator responses - and more raucous engine noise from inside the car.
