Pricing and specification for the new Passat Estate have been confirmed, ahead of its UK launch in November. Prices start at £16,090 (RRP on the road) for the entry-level S 1.6-litre FSI 115 PS.
Standard specification is generous, and includes: alloy wheels; heat insulating tinted glass; LED rear lights; electronic parking brake (unique in this sector); press and drive key; and air conditioning.
The latest Passat Estate features a host of safety functions on all models. ABS with BAS (Brake Assist System) and EBD (Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution), driver’s and front passenger’s airbags, curtain airbag system, ESP including EDL (Electronic Differential Lock) and ASR (Traction Control) are all standard features across the range.
Adding to the practical character of the new Passat Estate is optional self-levelling hydropneumatic rear suspension, while a cargo management system including a rail system in the boot floor offers more flexible securing of heavy items. Other options include: keyless entry; DVD navigation and radio system; and electric tailgate closing, which manages the full range of movement without any need for touching the tailgate.
Like its saloon counterpart, the new Passat Estate features four-link rear suspension and transversely-mounted engines. Many technical highlights will be available, including a Bluetooth telephone unit and a benchmark 600W RMS Dynaudio sound system, plus, two firsts in this class: the standard-fit electronic handbrake, and a 2Zone Climatronic system (standard on Sport and SEL models).
A wide range of power units will be available at the model’s UK launch: 1.6-litre FSI 115 PS; 2.0-litre FSI 150 PS; and 2.0-litre T-FSI 200 PS petrol engines; plus 1.9-litre TDI 105 PS and 2.0-litre TDI 140 PS diesels with high pressure Pumpe Düse unit injection. A 2.0-litre TDI 170 PS and a 3.2-litre FSI V6 250 PS petrol engine with homogenous direct injection will follow later.
Volkswagen’s revolutionary DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) will be available on TDI models, with six-speed tiptronic automatic transmission available on 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre FSI engines.
More than 4.3 million Passat Estates have been produced over five generations, and the latest model is set to continue this success. The Passat Estate is available to order now, ahead of its November launch date.
