The Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion has gone on sale priced from £20,335 for the three-door model and £20,990 for the five-door version with the first deliveries expected in August.
The new Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion is powered by a four cylinder 1.6-litre TDI diesel engine from the new EA288 engine range mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. As you would expect it features Stop/Start technology and a host of other eco-friendly systems.
The Golf BlueMotion promises on the combined cycle 88.3 mpg with CO2 emissions of 85 g/km. Where the consumption figure may not quite reflect real life consumption, it is impressive and so are the emissions. The low CO2 figure means that you do not have to pay road tax.
If you can achieve 88.3 mpg then the 50-litre fuel tank gives you a theoretical range of 970 miles - which for the average motorist means only 10 trips to the petrol station, well the diesel station in this case.
