Volkswagen has announced a new entry-level camper with seating for up to seven people, new Volkswagen California Beach model, priced from £35,970 or £379 a month with a Volkswagen Solutions Personal Contract Plan.
Inside, the Volkswagen California Beach offers seating for up to seven people, with a two, or three-seat rear bench and optional addition chairs. The front seats rotate to face the rear and the sliding side door comes complete with a portable table. Two folding chairs are stored in the tailgate.
The bench seat can be folded to create a two-berth bed across the width of the Volkswagen California Beach, and a manual pop-up roof provides access to a further double bed.
The Volkswagen California Beach is powered by a choice of 2.0 litre TDI engines. The 114PS BlueMotion Technology makes its debut in the Beach offering combined fuel economy of 40.4mpg and CO2 output of 18g/km, five speed manual transmission, cruise control, Stop/Start system, brake regeneration and low rolling resistance tyres.
The second option is the 140PS unit with a six speed manual gearbox, costing £1165 over the BlueMotion Technology model. the 2.9 litre TDI 140{S has a combined fuel economy of 36.7mpg and CO2 emissions of 203g/km.
Standard equipment for the Volkswagen California Beach includes 16-inch ‘Miyato’ alloy wheels, Climatic air conditioning and a CD/radio with eight speakers. Exclusive to the model is Sunny Yellow exterior paint and Takato upholstery. Optional extras include larger alloy wheels, a 32-litre cool/warm box (powered by second leisure battery), programmable parking heater, an awning, privacy glass, double glazing and Bluetooth mobile phone provision, plus satellite navigation with Western Europe mapping pre-loaded to an internal memory and xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights.
