Like all good things, once you have experienced the benefits of air conditioning or climate control in your car, it is hard to imagine life without it. So the chance to give your system a spring check if you drive a Vauxhall makes a lot of sense.

Availability of A/C as an option even on small cars like the Corsa since the mid-nineties has had a major impact on driving enjoyment. It really does create a more comfortable, pollution-free environment, and keeps you alert throughout the journey.

In excess of one million Vauxhall vehicles on the road have air conditioning or climate control, but unless you have had your A/C system recently serviced, how can you be sure that it is doing its job properly, or just blowing unfiltered cold air at your face.

Car air conditioning systems need servicing every couple of years to be fully effective, but the job is often overlooked once cars leave the comfort zone of three year new car warranties and owners turn to the independent service sector on grounds of cost.

A comprehensive 18 point £45 fixed-price check now available from Vauxhall Retailers and MasterFit Centres throughout the UK covers every major component in the A/C system, with the checks reassuringly carried out by Vauxhall-trained technicians.

Once the system has been given the all clear, or any rectification work completed at the owner’s cost, a six month or 10,000 mile guarantee will indemnify you against the cost of valid repairs to any components should the system subsequently fail for any reason.

Although the system check does not include the fitting of a new cabin air filter, it would be wise to ask the service advisor to replace the existing one if your service records show that it has not been changed within the last 12 months or 10,000 miles.

On a Corsa, a new activated carbon cabin filter can be fitted for £25. It provides protection against fumes, dust, soot, rubber particles from tyres and up to 99.5 per cent of other airborne pollution that on a hot day in heavy traffic can make life behind the wheel a misery, particularly if you suffer from hay fever or other allergies.
