It was a stunning five award wins for Vauxhall in one of the industry’s most prestigious fleet car awards.
The Fleet World Honours, presented at the RAC Club in London, are among the most respected in the company car industry, with an expert judging panel that works within the fleet management, residual values and vehicle retail sectors.
And the star prize of the day went to Britain’s fleet market leader, Vauxhall, scooping the top accolade for Fleet Manufacturer of the Year, while the highly acclaimed New Astra added another honour to its rapidly growing and impressive array of silverware.
Vauxhall’s commercial vehicles also went home loaded with silverware, with judges awarding Best Light Van to the Combo, Best Medium Van to Vivaro, and Best Diesel Engine to the Combo’s super-economical 1.3-litre CDTi found in Combo and Corsavan.
The awards were judged by a panel of experts representing the leasing industry, fleet managers, motoring journalists, residual value experts and the editorial team of Fleet World, who took into account a number of factors including residual values, maintenance costs, reliability, driver appeal and manufacturer back-up.
Fleet World editor Ross Durkin said: "Last year Vauxhall sold over 223,000 cars in the fleet market – the second year running it has topped the fleet sales charts - and 2005 looks to be heading the same way. The model range features some truly exciting cars with exceptional engines, and the award for Fleet Manufacturer of the Year is a fitting tribute to an excellent performance."
Commenting on another award win for Astra, fleet industry consultant George Emmerson said: "Astra was our Best New Car in 2004 and we knew that it was going to be a hot contender again in 2005. The car itself is first class and its styling underscores the move being made by Vauxhall to offer more exciting cars in a wider variety of body styles. As a fleet manager, you could not ask for a better overall package."
Ross Durkin added: "The new Astra offers a fantastic degree of choice - both engines and body styles - and it found favour with the toughest judges of all, the contract hire and leasing companies. Astra is the embodiment of Vauxhall’s increasingly powerful position in the UK fleet market."
In March of this year, New Astra was voted the best Lower-Medium Fleet Car of the Year at the Fleet News Awards. And only a few weeks earlier, the 32,000 readers of Fleet Week and Fleet Management magazines rated it best New Fleet Car of the Year in the Fleet Excellence Awards.
