The Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair proves yet again to be one of the summer's most thrilling days out.
With 40 plus world famous artists attracting more than 4,000 art lovers to the curated space in Brick Lane, the Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair delivered another sensational day of amazing art bargains and exhilarating spectacles on Sunday 6th June 2010.
Regular car booters Sir Peter Blake, Gavin Turk, Bob & Roberta Smith and Pam Hogg were joined by Martin Creed, Billy Childish, Pete Fowler, Jessica Albarn, Ian Dawson and many others for the 6th annual Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair.
Limited edition prints by pop artist Sir Peter Blake worth more than £400 were for sale at £40, and sold out within half an hour. YBA Gavin Turk, one of the UK's highest quoted artist, sold his road works series, fragments of asphalted road individually signed and numbered, for as little as £80. At a smashed down price of £10, the public had the chance to purchase an original Billy Childish woodcut print, whilst works from ex KLF superstar James Cauty were for sale with an astonishing 90% discount. There were art bargains for every pocket and for every taste!
The hugely popular event also offered a fresh and feisty take with a Wrestling theme, featuring live wrestling bouts, impromptu auctions and music performances staged on the wrestling ring centrepiece: Martin Creed took to the stage with his band Owada, as well as the fabulous Gabby Young and Other Animals and the trendsetting new band Revere.
This Hayward & Ashton curated event was conceived in 2004, when Karen Ashton decided to create a place where the humour and fun of the art world could revive, giving the artists the chance to relax and injecting frivolity back into art. Vauxhall Motors sponsor the initiative, reflecting their ongoing support of style and design in the UK.
