The new Vauxhall ADAM ROCKS AIR has gone on sale priced from £14,695 with the first deliveries expected later this month.
The ADAM ROCKS AIR takes the under-pinning’s of the current ADAM and adds a full length electric canvas sunroof, re-tunes the suspension increasing the ride height by some 15 mm and adds some pseudo off-road styling comprising exterior cladding and under-body skid plates.
Vauxhall are billing the ADAM ROCKS AIR as a convertible crossover blending the elements of the MINI Paceman (an SUV come Coupe) and the FIAT 500 Cabrio (with its folding fabric roof). Targeting it at the under 35 style conscious customer without a family - expressing their personality with a 60:40 split between female and male buyers.
There is a choice of three petrol power plants - 1.2-litre 70PS, 1.4-litre 87PS and the top of the range three-cylinder turbo-charged 1.0-litre 115PS ecoFLEX unit.
The 1.2-litre unit outputs 70PS and is capable of 103 mph with the benchmark 0-62 mph sprint taking 14.9 seconds. On the combined cycle, fuel consumption has been recorded at 55.3 mpg with CO2 emissions of 125 g/km.
The 1.4-litre engine produces 87PS which equates to a top speed of 109 mph and 0-62 mph in 12.5 - on the combined cycle 52.3 mpg and CO2 emissions are 126 g/km
The new turbo-charged 1.0-litre ecoFLEX engine produces 115PS which makes it a little bit more urgent with a top speed of 121 mph and 0-62 mph in 9.9 seconds - fuel consumption also improves to 55.4 mpg and CO2 emissions are 119 g/km.
All engines are equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox except the 1.0-litre ecoFLEX which has a six-speed manual box.
There are two interior options; the first is taken from the ADAM ROCKS AIR ‘Concept’ which comprises Brandy-coloured fabric/Morrocana seats and door panels, leather steering wheel, gearshift and handbrake in the same colour with “Surf” d�cor trim. The other trim features a Coffee Bean design with rich dark brown seats in a black cabin trimmed with bright blue stitching - both options are unique to the ADAM ROCKS AIR.
The fabric roof is available in the choice of either Black or Sweet Coffee; it is electrically operated and can be opened or closed at speeds up to 85 mph.
Standard equipment includes, LED daytime running lights with LED tail lamps, 17” allow wheels, tinted rear windows and electric folding canvas roof.
You can add options such as parking sensors, car alarm, leather trim and an array of styling options including 17” and 18” alloy wheel designs.
For £275 you can opt for the IntelliLink infotainment system which offers seamless integration of Android or Apple iOS based smartphones applications. The system comprises a 7-inch touch sensitive colour panel, USB and Bluetooth connectivity and seven speakers. It can for example read out aloud a text message arrives and you can dictate messages back to send via email or SMS. It will also allow you to make and receive handsfree telephone calls. And you can plug in USB enable devices such as MP3 players to playback your music selection or when stationary you can watch back video and images. You can also download apps such as BringGo which is navigation system which runs on your GPS enabled smartphone, as the maps are downloaded it does not chew up your data allowance.
