Toyota has initiated a customer satisfaction campaign to replace the hybrid electric water pump on certain Toyota Prius vehicles. This potential issue does not represent a safety risk and this campaign is not a recall.
The campaign affects certain second generation Toyota Prius vehicles produced between August 2003 and May 2007. Approximately 15,500 UK registered vehicles are affected by this campaign.
The potential problem with the water pump could cause the vehicle to lose power. In this condition, the temperature of the coolant could become high and result in illumination of the Malfunction Indicator Light.
This issue does not represent a safety risk and Toyota would like to assure customers that the vehicles are safe to drive.
Toyota has not received any reports of accidents or injuries from problems with the pump.
The repair involves installing a newly designed water pump at no cost to the customer.
