The Toyota Avensis, which is exclusively built at Toyota's UK factory in Burnaston will be exported to Japan. The UK plant already exports the model to 47 countries across the world.
Business Secretary Vince Cable said: "Toyota exports 85 per cent of the cars and engines it makes at its UK plants in Burnaston and Deeside. Today's news that it will now also export its Avensis model to Japan is a tribute to the skills of the workforce, the efficiency of the plant and the quality of its products."
Toyota Motor Manufacturing (UK) Ltd Managing Director Katsunori Kojima said: "We are very proud that the Avensis has been selected for export to Japan. This is yet another vote of confidence for the factory and the high quality of our products."
Toyota decision to introduce the Toyota Avensis to its "home" market of Japan is a result of demand for European styling and engineering from Japanese customers. The Toyota Avensis Tourer version will be made available, featuring a 2.0 litre engine with Multidrive S continuously variable transmission (CVT). 750 vehicles a month will be shipped form the UK, with production beginning in July 2011.
