A new global survey from Interbrand, the Best Global Green Brands has published results which take into account environmental performance combined with a brand's "green profile" - its public perception of the brand's environmental sustainability to produce the Green Performance Score.
Data which has been collected from around the world, in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, USA, Japan, Brazil and India, including interviews with 10,000 consumers, The data has resulted in Toyota receiving a top score of 64.19 points.
The Interbrand report says: "[Toyota] a leading example of making the environment a core management priority, while also engaging in a meaningful way with audiences around the world".
A key contributor to Toyota's green performance is their hybrid technology including the Toyota Prius. Since 1997, Toyota and Lexus have totaled over 2.3 million worldwide hybrid vehicle sales.
The results of the report coincide with the official switch-on of a large-scale solar power system at Toyota's Burnaston plant in Derbyshire, one of Toyota's "eco-plants" at the forefront of cleaner and more efficient manufacturing and operations responsible for the manufacturing of the Toyota Auris full hybrid hatchback.
Toyota has also recently installed a solar wall at its factory based in Valenciennes, France and has plans to install wind turbines at its vehicle logistics centre in Zeebrugge, Belgium.
