The heating and ventilation system has a high airflow capacity and incorporates a dehumidifying facility, side-window demisters and a new type radial fan that minimizes noise and power consumption. The air-conditioning system [standard on the GLX] incorporates technology which assists in reducing fuel consumption.
Storage Spaces For Smaller Items
Smaller items can be placed in sensibly-located spaces including the large lockable glove box; front-door pockets; front-seat back pockets; a sliding storage tray under the front-passenger-seat. There are two front cup holders - which convert into a storage receptacle - and a rear cup holder. Card holders are built into both sun visors.
Cabin fabrics are colour co-ordinated to complement the exterior paint finish and the fascia has a subtle two-tone design, which matches the finish on the steering wheel and the heater and air conditioning controls.
UK Liana models are equipped with a 1.6-litre, DOHC, all-aluminium engine with electronic fuel injection that delivers power, driveability, quietness and fuel efficiency by maximising mid-range torque and minimising noise and vibration.
New Suspension System
The suspension system is designed for responsiveness and ride comfort. It uses MacPherson struts front and rear and its geometry, link layouts, mountings and bushings are all unique to the Liana.
Each damper has layered metal valves that control the damping force under a wide range of loading conditions whilst the rear suspension arms are attached to a rubber-mounted subframe to isolate the passenger compartment from road noise, vibration and harshness.
Effective stopping power is provided by a 10-inch vacuum brake servo, 9.7inch ventilated disc brakes at the front and by leading/trailing drums at the rear. Four-wheel ABS, supplemented by an electronic braking-force distribution function [EBD], is standard on GLX specification models.
Choice Of Manual Or Automatic Transmission
A five-speed manual transmission of light, compact design, working with an hydraulically-controlled clutch for easy operation, is standard. A four-speed automatic transmission is available as an option on both models.
This gearbox features an electronic control system linked to the engine management system to minimise shift shock, and a torque-converter lockup in third and fourth gears to increase fuel efficiency.
Hydraulic power steering is standard on both models. The hydraulic pump has a new design that minimises pulsation noise via bushings and other features which maximise the gear case's mounting rigidity, enabling optimal steering response with minimal vibration and noise.
The Liana's structure protects occupants from impact forces by crumpling progressively around a rigid central cell that includes an impact beam in each side door. Its design enables the Liana to meet Suzuki's internal testing requirements which reflect stringent European standards for occupant protection.
The front doors and B-pillars incorporate impact-absorbing pads and various plastic trim parts have impact-absorbing structures. These features minimise possible head and limb injuries in the event of a side collision.
Large glass areas and the high seating position for the driver ensure a commanding view of the road and of oncoming traffic.
Dual front SRS airbags are standard on both models and they complement the front seat belts in the event of a frontal collision. The Liana GLX is also equipped with side airbags for additional protection in a side-on collision. Each side airbag has a volume of 10 litres and is incorporated into the front seats.
Quick, secure fitting of child seats is enabled by ISO-FIX child-seat fixings using special mechanisms in the rear seat belts. Childproof rear door locks and a central locking system - controlled internally by a switch or from the outside by the key in the GL or by a remote control in the GLX - enable the driver to prevent children from opening the doors while the car is moving.
Front and rear seats are installed on reinforced mountings to help protect occupants from luggage that might be thrown forward in a frontal collision.
Technologies that further improve safety include three-point seat belts at the front (each has a pretensioner, a force limiter, and a height-adjustable shoulder anchor); three-point seat belts for three rear seat passengers and a high-mounted stop lamp.
The doors are protected against being opened with anything but the owner's key or remote control, deadlocks prevent lock disengagement if a window is broken and a visible VIN helps to deter the serious thief. The lock mechanisms, protected inside the doors, are difficult to manipulate by inserting tools through the window seals.
External lock cylinders each have a freewheeling mechanism, so they spin uselessly if a thief attempts to force them using a screwdriver or the like, the fascia of the CD/radio is removable, relay switches in the wiring prevent electrical break-in, and further protection is provided by a strong steering lock and by an immobiliser that works with a coded chip hidden in the owner's key.
80 per cent of the body panels are of galvanised steel and under-body coatings are optimised. As a result Liana is supplied with a 12-year perforation warranty.
In order to ensure that repair costs and insurance premiums are minimised, parts at the front and rear of the body are designed to be easy to repair or replace after a low-speed collision.
Because many Liana sedan owners will wish to take advantage of the car's impressive flexibility and the contributions that it can make to their individual lifestyles, a wide range of exclusive Suzuki designed and approved accessories is available.
The New 1.6-litre 4-door Suzuki Liana sedan is covered by Suzuki Shield, a 3 year / 60,000 mile new vehicle warranty [whichever comes first], by Suzuki Assistance, providing 24 hour roadside assistance, recovery and associated services for 3 years and by a 12 year perforation warranty.
It is available with Suzuki Low Cost Insurance and can be purchased with the help of a wide range of finance plans available from Suzuki Finance.
