1.3-litre Suzuki Carry Pick-Up Launched - Another Flexible Friend From Suzuki

Suzuki Carry Pick-Up

Another distinctive, multipurpose light commercial - the Suzuki Carry Dropside pick-up - which will deliver operational flexibility for the benefit of a wide variety of business and service organisations as well as to many in the construction, agricultural and horticultural industries, is now on sale at all 140 UK Suzuki dealers.

The new Carry Dropside pick-up, imaginatively designed thanks to Suzuki's extensive experience in the light commercial vehicle sector, and priced at just £6,895* provides a unique, cost effective and - for many - a much more practical alternative to bulkier competitors.

Practical and versatile, it will satisfy wide demand from many UK operators for a compact yet spacious vehicle that can be operated equally efficiently in crowded city streets, delivering goods or materials speedily to difficult to access city locations where loading and parking space is at a premium, and performing equally as well in urban and rural environments.

Manufactured at Suzuki's Iwata plant in Japan to exacting quality standards, the new Carry pick-up is another example of how Suzuki's wide knowledge of compact vehicle design provides market leading consumer benefits.

Overall the Carry is designed and manufactured for a competitive world where the high priorities for businesses of all sizes - from the smallest to the largest - are reliability, low running costs, numerous practical features and flexibility.

Flexibility In Town ... And Out

Traffic congestion and accessibility are both fully addressed by the Carry pick-up. Its light weight, compact exterior dimensions, excellent manoeuvrability, sophisticated suspension and flexible 1.3-litre engine make it ideal for working in the busiest city traffic, in town centres and wherever vehicle access is limited. *excluding VAT and delivery

This combination of qualities, embodied in a modern, attractive design, also ensures that handling, whether empty or fully loaded, is nimble and reassuring, with the vehicle capable of manoeuvring adeptly around city locations, through towns, suburbs and villages and well beyond.

Distinctive On Road Presence

A long wheelbase and wide track, neat styling, including a distinctive, sculptured bonnet, twin halogen headlamps and a large wrap-round bumper, contribute to the new pick-up's presence on the road, whilst there is plenty of space on the doors, dropsides and tailgate to identify and promote the owner's business.

Operational Flexibility

The up-to-the-minute design endows the new Carry pick-up with most of the attributes of more expensive full sized vehicles and considerably more flexibility and versatility than many.

Overall it provides a perfect balance between compact exterior dimensions and a surprisingly spacious load area which is particularly easy to access thanks to the sturdy, hinged dropsides and tailgate.

This large load area - which measures 1,975 mm [77.8 ins] long and 1,410 mm [55.5 ins in width] - runs full width of the vehicle and is totally flat and without any wheel arch intrusions.

User Friendly

Large wide-opening front doors access the practical, modern and comfortable car-like accommodation provided for driver and passenger. Both the supportive seats - upholstered in a tough vinyl fabric - are equipped with separate head restraints.

Extensive glass areas and large door mirrors provide exceptional all round vision whilst interior space is maximised as a result of the location of the front wheel arches which make no intrusion into the cab.

In order to provide optimum manoeuvrability, particularly when parking, the Carry pick-up is fitted with power steering. Unusually the system is electric, with speed sensitivity, which means that unlike conventional hydraulic power assistance systems - which tend to be unsuitable for smaller engined vehicles - there is no reduction in assistance at low engine speeds.

Located ahead of the driver all controls and dials are easy to read, and simple to use. Both trip-meter and odometer use a modern liquid-crystal display to offer clear information at a glance and the cabin is well-appointed and practical, with handy and convenient stowage areas, a high quality radio cassette player and a large tray for personal items.

Flexible Engine

The pick-up is powered by the same 1298cc, all-alloy, four-cylinder 16-valve engine with sequentially controlled multi-point fuel injection introduced in 1999 in the Carry van.

This new engine, designed to support a hard-working and demanding commercial life, provides good acceleration and cruising ability. It comes with Dual Distributor-Less Ignition [DDI] which reduces ignition error and electro-magnetic interference to promote smooth running, efficient performance and quick start-up.

The engine produces maximum power of 77hp/57.5kw. It drives the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. The modern, clean-running engine - which meets the European emission control standard 96/69/EC - provides low fuel consumption and low emissions.

Suzuki power units traditionally have an enviable reputation for durability and reliability, qualities enhanced in the Carry pick-up by the use of a high-quality aluminium core radiator and stainless steel exhaust pipe.

Further extending the operational flexibility of the vehicle, a large 40-litre fuel tank is fitted providing a sensible range for out of town work.

Active And Passive Safety

The Carry has been designed with driver and passenger safety an important priority. Confident and reassuring handling is provided by a modern suspension design, relatively long wheelbase, wide stance and a low centre of gravity.

Ventilated disc brakes at the front, drums at the rear and a large 8-inch brake booster and a load-sensing proportional valve provide effective stopping power.

The bonnet incorporates a crumple zone and the steering column meets European steering impact standard 91/662/EEC. The driver and passenger are further protected by side impact bars in both front side-doors and by three-position ELR seatbelts. A driver's airbag is fitted as standard.

Suspension And Wheels

Underlining the modern design, MacPherson strut and coil springs at the front and a rigid rear axle rear - controlled by links and coil springs - provide a firm, comfortable ride, whilst comparatively large wheels and tyres help to enhance stability.

Accessories

Additional flexibility is provided by the availability of a number of Suzuki Exclusive accessories specifically manufactured for the Carry and designed to enhance its overall capabilities. The 40 item range includes tow bars alloy wheels, foglamps and a number of 'off the peg' livery schemes to suit a variety of business users.

Suzuki Support

The New Suzuki Carry - as with all Suzuki models -is covered by Suzuki Shield, a 3 year / 60,000 mile new vehicle warranty and 6 year perforation warranty and by Suzuki Assistance providing 24 hour roadside assistance, vehicle recovery and associated services for 36 months. The Carry van and pick-up can be purchased with the help of a wide range of tailor-made finance plans available from Suzuki Finance.
