The new Subaru WRX STI is coming for the summer 2014, priced £28,995 which is some £4,000 cheaper than its predecessor. It will be in showrooms from May 2014, after its departure last year. Subaru have commented that limited numbers will be imported, so we would recommend that you make a visit to your dealer as soon as possible.
The Subaru WRX STI is based on the WRX saloon which was launched as the Los Angles Motor Show in November 2013. The WRX STI is powered by a 2.5 litre (2,457 cc) turbo-charged boxer four-pot engine, which produces 305hp and 290lb/ft of torque. The six-speed gearbox has been reinforced and now adopts even shorter throw for more engaging experience.
You still get Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive with VDC and Active Torque Vectoring to keep everything under control. The springs and dampers rates have been re-tuned to provide a more compliant ride while retaining body composure. The electric power steering has been modified to give a more direct feel.
The new Subaru WRX STI has a footprint of 4,595(l) x 1,795(w) x 1,475(h) mm. The wheelbase has been increased by 25mm to give more rear legroom, the shoulder and elbow room has been increased for all occupants. All round vision has been improved with the A-pillars moved 200mm moved forward. Boot space has been increased and access has been improved with larger door apertures.
There are now LED headlights, tail and brake lights - the interior features a new D-shaped steering wheel of smaller diameter, with softer touch materials, carbon effect and metal trim - give a more upmarket feel.
