Subaru UK is extending its current title sponsorship of Europe's biggest annual International horse trial, the Subaru Houghton International, until 2013.
This year's four-day Subaru Houghton International, which took place at Houghton Hall near King's Lynn in Norfolk in May 2010, was officially recognised as the biggest event of its kind in Europe, after 358 riders from 19 nations took part. Event Director Alec Lochore led the small in-house team and a voluntary workforce of 320 people in constructing 112 challenging jumps run over 3 separate 5,500-metre courses - aided by a fleet of 10 Subaru support vehicles. The resulting equestrian extravaganza attracted numerous Olympic and world champion riders.
Subaru Brand Ambassador and Olympic hopeful, Oliver Townend, said "The Subaru Houghton is a highlight of the eventing calendar and one I always very much look forward to going to. This is excellent news that further consolidates this tremendous event."
"Houghton International has fast developed into a true highlight of the British equestrian sporting calendar, and is a perfect fit for the Subaru brand," comments Paul Tunnicliffe, Subaru UK's Managing Director. "I'm delighted that we will be back at Houghton Hall for the next three years, welcoming top-name competitors as well as existing and prospective fans of the Subaru model range."
In addition to being a Subaru brand ambassador and managing Subaru Houghton International, 39-year old Alec Lochore has just been confirmed as Eventing Manager for the London 2012 Olympics. Working alongside the London Organising Committee, Lochore will lead the team that delivers the equestrian events at an all-new Olympic facility at Greenwich Park. "Alec has impeccable event organisation credentials, and the decision to put him in charge of the new Olympic equestrian events is a ringing endorsement of his capabilities," adds Tunnicliffe. "We're proud and pleased to have him on-board with Subaru."
Lochore welcomed the sponsorship extension. "Subaru is a great supporter of equestrianism in Britain and has helped grow the Houghton International into the major event that it is today. When I'm not riding I need a spacious, practical and go-anywhere vehicle to help me go about my business, and Subarus are perfect for that."
