Having seen the press reports of Subaru's widely-acclaimed new Boxer Diesel range, Matthew Ring from Wellingborough, went along to Milton Keynes-based dealer, Souls Garages, to find out what all the fuss was about. With a young family to consider, he decided to give the Subaru Forester XC Boxer Diesel a chance. Following an extended test drive that gave the family plenty of time to fully appreciate the vehicle, they bought one.
So impressed was Matthew with his car-buying experience, the day after placing his order he took his recently retired father, John, along to Souls and requested the same extended test drive on the Subaru Boxer Diesel Legacy. And he bought one too - but added the following accessories: colour coded front under spoiler, cargo step, carrier base, cargo tray, mats, colour coded reversing aids and colour coded mini under side spoilers.
Starting at £20,870, the Subaru Boxer Diesel catapults the Forester to the top of the class for fuel economy and low emissions, and offers drivers the longest range of any SUV, at more than 1,000 km before refuelling. Nor can any other competitor match its ultra-low 167 g/km meaning an annual Road Fund Licence of £170 and Group 9E insurance rating for the Subaru Forester 2.0D X and XC models.
The Subaru Legacy and Outback range starts at £21,055 on-the-road for the Legacy 2.0D R manual Sports Tourer, boasting outstanding fuel efficiency, exceptional handling and high equipment levels such as dual-zone climate-control, cruise control, front, side and curtain airbags, a leather steering wheel and 215/45 tyres on 17x7 ins alloy wheels.
Matthew said: "The service we received at Souls was fantastic as they found not only the perfect car for my growing family but also for my father too."
Managing Director, Andrew Soul, said: "Without a doubt people who test drive the new Subaru range of Boxer Diesels will be impressed. Subaru cars have been one of the best-kept secrets in the UK for too many years. However the new diesels are already having an immense impact on people's perception of the Subaru Brand. We have noticed increased footfall this year through our showroom compared to the same period in 2008 and the reason is simple - Subaru Diesels are here."
