Skoda Octavia vRS Estate Launched At The Birmingham Motorshow 2002

ŠkodaAuto UK are adding two models to their line up, both from 1 February 2003. The award-winning Fabia will see the addition of a 1.2-litre engine in Classic trim, while the sporty Octavia vRS hatch will be joined by an Estate version.

The 1.2-litre Fabia, the new entry-level vehicle for the model, is priced at £6,995 on the road. The EU4 compliant engine develops 54 bhp and, has high torque at lower revolutions, 77ft. lb. at 3000 rpm, to contribute to a smooth and flexible drive, which is especially useful in urban driving.

The engine is fitted with counter-rotating balancing shafts and low chain-driven single overhead cam for enhanced drivetrain refinement and reliability. Fuel consumption - 47.1 mpg on the combined cycle - and CO2 emissions - 144 g/km – are low, resulting in lower vehicle tax costs. The engine was designed with low noise and vibration levels for greater passenger comfort.

The 1.2-litre powered Fabia comes in Classic trim with very high levels of standard equipment which includes anti-lock brakes, driver and passenger front passenger airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners, immobiliser, power steering, an RDS radio with four speakers, rake and reach adjustable steering wheel and a pollen air filter.

Altogether, Škoda once again brings its great value to supermini buyers, with peppy performance and great standard equipment at a great price.

The Octavia vRS Estate adds even more to the Škoda range, with its combination of load-lugging flexibility and sporty performance, priced at just £15,800 on the road.

Sitting on the same platform as the sporty hatchback and powered by the same all-alloy 1.8-litre, 20-valve turbo-charged petrol engine, the vRS Estate develops a healthy 180 bhp at 5500 rpm and a full 173 lb ft of torque is available from 1950-5000 rpm. That’s enough power to take the estate to 62 mph in 8.0 seconds and onto a top speed of 143 mph.

The Octavia vRS Estate sits on 16 inch multispoke alloy wheels with 205/50 R16 profile tyres with its ride height lowered by 19mm. Like the vRS hatch, it has sporty front and rear bumpers, single large-bore sports exhaust, Škoda’s green and red vRS badges on the grille and bootlid. The vRS Estate is further distinguished by blacked out roof-rails and a tailgate-mounted rear roof spoiler.

The interior has the same sporty touches Octavia vRS hatch owners love. The height-adjustable sports front seats are part leather, the chunky three-spoke steering wheel and chrome-topped gear lever are also leather-bound, while the pedals are covered with stainless steel pads. The sporty look is finished off by a set of silver-rimmed instrument dials.

Like all Škoda models sold in the UK, the Fabia 1.2 litre hatch and the Octavia vRS Estate will come with Škoda’s two year unlimited mileage manufacturer’s warranty, together with a third year retailer warranty which is valid until the vehicle has completed 60,000 miles or the end of the third year, whichever is sooner.

Both will be on sale at Škoda retailers throughout Great Britain from 1 February, and both will add even more choice to Škoda’s already great range of exciting new cars.
