Škoda Motorsport saw all three of its Octavia WRC rally cars complete the Rally of Great Britain, one of the few manufacturers to bring all of its cars to the finish ramp. However, the rally was not without drama for the Czech team as heavy fog on Sunday morning hampered visibility.
The Rally of Great Britain is the last round of the 2002 FIA World Rally Championship and resulted in Skoda Motorsport finishing fifth in the World Rally Championship for Manufacturers for the year.
Toni Gardemeister had to be content with tenth place overall. Co-driver Paavo Lukander said, "We could go faster, and we tried it on one stage, but the risk of going off was too great." Toni and Paavo ended the season in 13th position in the 2002 Drivers Championship. Toni looked ahead to next season saying, "We will be much stronger next year – we have made improvements at every rally this year and this will continue in 2003."
Kenneth Eriksson finished the rally in 13th place. Kenneth and co-driver Tina Thörner completed the season 18th in the 2002 Drivers Championship.
Roman Kresta and Milos Hulka ended the rally in 15th position. Roman said, "I am happy with my result because we finished this difficult rally. Our speed is increasing all the time as I gain more and more experience."
Team principal Pavel Janeba concluded that this season was much more difficult than 2001, saying, "We not only had 14 events this year but most teams competed with 3 cars all the time. We have shown a steady improvement this year – the gap to the top teams has become smaller and I am confident about our performance next year."Final Results Rally Of Great Britain
