Our summer showers do not seem to have kept customers from Škoda showrooms, as sales in August 2002 reached 1,593 vehicles; a 17 per cent increase compared to August last year.
Škoda’s market share for August increased to 1.8 per cent, resulting in a year-to-date figure of 1.5 per cent. With total sales for 2002 standing at 24,958, Škoda sales have increased 11.2 per cent year-on-year against a market that has only moved 7.3 per cent.
The ever-popular Škoda Fabia accounted for 874 vehicles - 55 per cent of August sales. This figure comprised of 655 hatch versions, 187 estates and 32 Fabia saloons. The most popular Octavia was the very economical Octavia 1.9 SDI hatchback, of which 122 were sold, resulting in total Octavia sales of 691 vehicles. Superb sales were off to a strong start with 288 vehicles sold since the launch in May 2002, of which 27 were sold in August; a strong indication that the Superb has been favourably received by company car drivers and private buyers alike.
Martin Gay, Head of Retailer Operations for the North, commented "This excellent performance in August is a testament to the fact that more and more people are choosing to drive a Škoda for the first time. Our retailers have been central to this rapid growth and yet have still maintained the excellent levels of customer care and the famous personal service of which we are so proud."
