In the 2012 Caravan Club Towcar of the Year Awards, the Skoda Superb Estate Elegance 2.0 litre TDI DSG has won in the £25,000 - £32,000 category.
The judging panel, made up of motoring journalists and caravanning experts, said of the Skoda Superb Estate: "the best on hill starts by a mile", "effortless to drive and tow with", "confidence-inspiring" and "pleasant environment to be in".
Skoda UK Brand Director, Robert Hazelwood, commented: "Winning any honour once is a great achievement but to do it again is testament to the outstanding engineering, and quality of the Skoda range. We know the caravanning community is an enthusiastic supporter of the Superb Elegance Estate. Its powerful 2.0-litre diesel engine and efficient DSG transmission create a refined and stable base for stress-free long-distance towing."
30 entrants from a number of manufacturers were entered in the 2012 contest at the Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire.
Special guest at this year's event was former F1 driver Johnny Herbert, who attended the testing as well as presenting the awards to representatives from the winning manufacturers at a ceremony in central London.
The 30 cars were divided into three price categories and two all-wheel drive categories (up to 1800kg and over 1800kg). Manufacturers could enter models that were new launches between 1st August 2010 and 30th September 2011 or existing models which have seen substantial modifications.
The Skoda Superb Estate was overall Towcar of the Year and class winner last year.
During track tests, the judges assess each car's towing ability alongside acceleration, braking and hill start capabilities. Each model was also assessed for everyday caravanning usability.
