Saab And Volvo Recall Detachable Towbar: 'Type G 3.0'

A total of 1,638 of a particular type of detachable towbar supplied by Volvo and SAAB in the UK are being recalled due to the discovery of a design defect following the recent failure of a towbar, despite it being correctly fitted.

The towbar, type G 3.0, is distinguished by a green release handle, has a locking key and round signal pin cover. Both manufacturers would like customers with these towbars to contact their local dealer as soon as possible to have the towing bracket secured. This work should only take about 20 minutes and will, naturally, be carried out free of charge. The towbar will then be replaced with a new design later this year.

The towbar in question was produced between August 1998 until May 2000 and was supplied to 1042 Volvo cars and 596 Saab cars in the UK. Owners of previous Volvo or Saab detachable tow bar models with green release handles but square signal pin covers, or the current design with black release handle, are not affected by this recall.

Volvo and Saab will be jointly advertising this recall in the national and specialist press.
