The orange highlights work well with the dark, lower part of the interior and it looks good in conjunction with the optional Cayenne, metallic body colour, which is one of eleven colour options. It even looks good with the standard Pacific Blue because it is quite dark but, please, not with the brighter, Extreme Blue.
The Conquest has a particularly pleasant fascia with controls nicely focused in the centre console, above the high-level, gear-shift pod. From behind the rake- and reach-adjustable steering column, the digital instrument panel runs across the top of the dashboard and ends above the central controls. It looks as if the designers cut a slit in the top of the fascia and simply opened it enough to slip in the slim, instrument panel.
Between the front seats of the test car, was a deep, bureau-topped storage compartment with armrests above and courtesy lights, power point and two cup-holders within. This is a £250, optional extra and one of many, plus there is an accessories list, which is quite comprehensive.
There are no trim levels, however, the Conquest’s standard features are based on and build upon the Scenic Dynamique and include automatic parking brake, air-conditioning with pollen- filter, rear parking sensor, cruise-control with speed limiter, rear window blinds and keyless entry with the Renault ‘card’, as well as a host of other must-have goodies.
An RDS radio and single CD player are standard issue but this can be upgraded to include MPS compatibility and a 6-CD autochanger, which can be dash-mounted or hidden under the front passenger seat. The turn-by-turn, satellite-navigation is another optional extra, as is the Bluetooth, hands-free system but the latter doesn’t include adaptors and brackets for specific mobile ‘phones.
