Delia Smith today took delivery of the new GEN-2 from Proton as the first retail customer in the UK. As a television cook and best selling author, Delia’s name is synonymous with back-to-basics cookery, placing importance on simple ingredients and techniques to serve up her ever-popular delicious dishes.
GEN-2 has been created by Proton in collaboration with Lotus and exemplifies the Proton philosophy of delivering more value. The GEN-2 sets a new benchmark in family hatchbacks, to combine style, comfort and reliability, together with performance through Lotus-developed ride and handling.
Proton has come up with the perfect blend of engineering and styling to create GEN-2. The 1.6 litre 16 valve CAMPRO engine has been created by Lotus and Proton engineers to produce a powerful 110 brake horse power, making it as nippy in town as it is accomplished on the motorway.
Protection is paramount and the GEN-2 is designed to be as safe on the move as it is when parked. Responsive handling by Lotus gives confidence in avoidance manoeuvres and there is the firm reassurance of twin air bags, side impact bars and crumple zones front and rear on all models. Unattended, the GEN-2 has several lines of defence against break-ins and theft which prove a real deterrent.
With power steering as standard, the GEN-2 corners effortlessly as it flattens out the bumps for an exciting yet smooth ride. All of this is underpinned by 15" alloy wheels, available as standard on the GLS and GSX models.
As a director of Norwich City Football Club, Delia will no doubt cook up some admiring glances as she parks her new GEN-2 at Carrow Road to cheer on the Canaries this season.
As well as its sleek sporty good looks, the GEN-2 is designed to be as practical and versatile as possible, with clever storage solutions and a spacious interior that comfortably takes five adults. The boot is roomy with plenty of space for both the family supermarket shopping and football kit bags. There are clever touches like reverse distance sensors to make for safer manoeuvres and LED warning lights on the dash to remind drivers to buckle up, switch off lights, or ensure all doors are properly shut. The GEN-2 has the added reassurance of the Proton Peace of Mind Warranty - a comprehensive package that includes three years’ free RAC cover making it clear that the GEN-2 has the perfect combination of ingredients to make it a winner for Delia.
