Scott Mansell will make his Carrera Cup GB debut at Silverstone this weekend of 17/18 September when he drives the car entered by Porsche Cars in association with Team Autosport.
The Tamworth teenager will be racing the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car in rounds 17 and 18 of the championship as he competes away from single-seaters for the first time in his career. The weekend after the Silverstone race he will be racing at Watkins Glen in New York state in the USA in a round of the ‘Infinity Pro Series’.
"I'm really excited about racing the Porsche and I can't wait to get out in the car," said Scott. But there are some very experienced drivers out there and I really don’t know where I'll be amongst them."
Mansell really made his name in 2004 when racing an ex-Grand Prix Benetton in BOSS races and his remarkable speed claimed five outright circuit lap records. He currently holds the circuit lap records at Silverstone, Donington Park and Brands Hatch.
Scott, who will reach his 20th birthday on 1 October, is currently focused on taking his single-seater career as far as possible, but is eager to gain sports and GT experience. "Single-seaters is still where I'm concentrating, but this could be a way into GT racing for the future," he said.
The races will be held on the 1.6-mile national circuit at Silverstone, where he holds the current outright circuit record in his Benetton B192 in 47.404s (124.47mph).
