With the ‘52’ plate new for September this year, and Peugeot introducing a wide range of new products in recent months, there is a strong case for choosing a new Peugeot car or van.
Free insurance on 106 and 206 models
Students looking forward to university this autumn, newly qualified drivers, those looking for a nippy car for driving around town, or a great handling car for long distance driving, will be hard pressed to find anything more suitable than one of Peugeot’s popular superminis.
With the 206 topping the retail sales charts in 2001 and again so far in 2002 with over 60,000 sold year-to-date, the 206 continues to be one of Peugeot’s long running success stories.
Aware of how insurance premiums are continuing to rocket for Britain’s young drivers, Peugeot is offering one year’s free insurance on most 106* and 206 models**, representing a saving of hundreds of pounds.
Both the 106 and 206 are designed to appeal to young and old alike with their feline look and ease of driving. Both ooze ‘street’ appeal and all models have a high level of standard equipment. This combination of great value and low running costs makes them a ‘must have’ for September.
The Peugeot 106 Independence is priced from £6,495 on the road, has low CO2 emissions of 145 g/km, a combined fuel economy figure of 46.3 mpg and a low B grade vehicle excise duty (VED) banding. The 206 Style starts at £7,995 on the road, with CO2 levels of 148 g/km, a combined fuel economy figure of 45.6 mpg and a grade B VED banding.
Continuing the success story of the 206, Peugeot has recently introduced the 206 SW, which is built exclusively at PSA Peugeot Citroen’s Ryton manufacturing plant in Coventry. The 206 SW has been designed for customers requiring more carrying space, combined with the character and style of a sports hatchback.
With the same distinctive ‘face’ as the 206 hatchback, the 206 SW has added dimensions in more ways than one. Black pillars give the SW a well-defined waist, with black side mouldings and roof rails adding style and practicality. The rear door handles are incorporated into the rear door pillars with the rear wraparound lamp clusters sweeping up to the high roofline for a sporty feel. A curved and tinted back window sits beneath a full-length spoiler which houses the central high mounted brake light, completing the look.
Boasting the practicality of an estate and seating for up to five occupants, the 206 SW has a choice of three petrol (1.1, 1.4 and 1.6 litre) and two HDi turbodiesel engines (2.0 litre available now, 1.4 litre to be introduced in October).
Standard equipment includes a practical rear window which can be opened independently of the tailgate, to provide boot access in tight parking spaces. In addition, all models feature power steering, driver and passenger airbag, remote control central door locking, driver seat height adjustment, sports front seats, 60/40 split rear seats, three rear 3-point seat belts and three rear head restraints, body coloured front door handles and door mirrors.
Prices start from just £8,995 on the road for the 1.1 litre petrol XL.
307 – International Car of the Year 2002
The Peugeot 307 hatchback introduced last summer has already achieved the prestigious ‘International Car of the Year 2002’ award.
On all Peugeot 307 three- and five-door hatchback models, Peugeot is offering 12 months 0% finance, subject to a 50% deposit. Prices start at £10,860 on the road for the 1.4 litre petrol Style three-door model.
Further developments in 2002 have seen the introduction of the 307 SW with its ability to seat seven and a unique three quarter length panoramic glass roof, and the 307 Estate for added practicality.
Prices start from £11,860 for the 307 Estate and £13,660 for the 307 SW.
For families and executives, the 406 has been and remains a firm favourite. Having undergone a recent range simplification to make customer choice easier, both the 406 saloon and estate benefit from additional specification on GLX models, with new options available on the Rapier derivatives. Prices for the range start at £13,495 for the 1.8 litre petrol L model with air conditioning.
The 406 saloon and estate and Peugeot Coupé are all available with 36 months 0% finance, subject to a 35% deposit.
