Heated seats. Probably not high on your list of must-haves at the moment. But just wait, within a few months you’ll be wishing for a warm bottom in the mornings. Or the evenings, for that matter.
Nissan’s been thinking ahead and added a Winter Pack consisting of heated front seats and headlamp washers to its Terrano range topping SVE model. These items together are worth at least £250, depending on which manufacturer’s optional extras list you’re looking at, yet the Terrano SVE increases in price by only £100.
There are three Terrano SVEs available all powered by the same 3.0-litre Di 156PS stompingly torquey powerhouse: a short-wheelbase three-door priced at £21,795, the longer-wheelbase, seven seating, five door for £24,395 or with automatic transmission at £25,395. Apart from standard third row seating and rear electric windows fitted only to the five-door, all have the same HUGE list of equipment. So there’s leather upholstery, an electric sunroof in addition to aircon, 6CD autochanger, alarm, darkened rear glass, roof rails, 16" alloys, side-steps, two-tone metallic paint, obviously a selectable four-wheel drive system with low-ratio gearbox, anti-lock brakes… Since we’re talking safety, the SVE is unusual (for a traditional 4x4) in having side airbags and active front seat headrests. And you weren’t going to ask but we’ll say it anyway - there are no available factory fitted optional extras. It’s got the lot. Including the ability to tow (with manual transmission) as much as three tonnes of trailer. Pretty much the weight of a house.
Can’t say much on the subject of headlamp washers except that they do as the name says. Granted, somewhat redundant in the summer unless you’re using your Terrano as Nissan intended and exploiting its mud-wrestling abilities to the full. But come winter, when your car is encrusted with salty grime … sorry, too horrid a thought to contemplate when already we’re suffering from summer-where-was-it syndrome.
And heated seats … well, Nissan’s offer a choice of toasty and toasting settings and are particularly pleasant when teamed with leather upholstery as is standard on the Terrano SVE. Some also claim that the warmth the elements emit is particularly soothing for backache. And other complaints which we won’t mention here.
