Mitsubishi Motors in the UK has posted an all time new vehicle sales record for the first quarter of 2003. With sales of 8,314 vehicles, 23% up on 2002, and an increase of 26% for sales in March, the race is on for Mitsubishi Motors in the UK to become the number one distributor of Mitsubishi vehicles in Europe.

Building on 2002’s exceptional result of +19% sales, the UK has now become the biggest growth market for Mitsubishi in Europe and, for the first time, has knocked Germany off the top spot in terms of overall sales volume.

Mitsubishi’s ‘right car - right price’ philosophy has proved the cornerstone of the company’s revival in the UK, increasing sales across the product range. The biggest success story continues to be the L200 taking 48% of the overall pick up market with March sales of 2,136 and a total of 3,356 for the first quarter, up 53% from 2002. Within the passenger car range, the Carisma is proving very popular with customers, so much so that dealers are currently selling all the stock they can lay their hands on. Sales of the Carisma for the first quarter of 2003 were 1,438 units, an increase of 139% compared to the same period last year.

With a number of real value for money consumer offers available on the current range, a revised Space Star line-up and the introduction of new Special Edition models within the Shogun range, Mitsubishi’s UK success story looks set to continue throughout 2003.
