This weekend’s Baja Portalegre 500 saw a fantastic performance from Stéphane Peterhansel/Jean-Paul Cottret and everyone at Team Repsol Mitsubishi Ralliart taking the brand new Mitsubishi Lancer to its first victory. Taking over from the successful Pajero/Montero Evolution, the Mitsubishi Lancer ran reliably throughout the entire three day of the Portuguese event to win by 4 minutes 3 seconds over 515.16km.
Suffering only a minor spin on Friday and a puncture on Saturday allowed Stéphane Peterhansel and co-driver Jean-Paul Cottret to get to the top of the leader board by close of Day 2.
Team Repsol Mitsubishi Ralliart will stay in Portugal to further test the new Mitsubishi Lancer, before heading over to Spain in order to focus on engine calibration at high altitudes in preparation for the 2009 Dakar Rally.
