Mercedes Benz has taken luxury motoring to a new dimension with the addition of the Euro 4 specification S 320 CDI model to its benchmark S-Class range. Available to order now, the S 320 CDI is available from £50,965.
The EU 4 specification rewards the business user with even more tax-efficient luxury than ever; a sizeable three per cent per annum on company car tax. A bonus to fleet users who have voted S-Class the Best Luxury Car in this year’s Fleet Excellence Awards.
Owners of S 320 CDI can also take advantage of the fantastic range on offer. Thanks to a huge 88 litre fuel tank and class leading economy, the latest specification S-Class has the potential to cover over 850 miles on a single fill of diesel - that’s London to Edinburgh and back - and all in trademark Mercedes Benz luxury.
The change from EU 3 to EU 4 specification is thanks to the addition of a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and changes within the S-Class engine management. This new breed of filter manages to hold and burn particles without the need for expensive and cumbersome fuel additives. This is an important advance since the additive-based solutions can create particle build-up within the filter and increase back-pressure within the exhaust system, which would reduce economy and performance whilst increasing emissions.
The Mercedes Benz DPF is regenerated on an ‘active control’ basis, when needed. Sensors within the engine management system adjust the temperature within the DPF and particulates are burnt-off, cleaning the DPF. Compared to high mileage vehicles with additive-based systems, the Mercedes Benz developed DPF reduces ash residues by as much as 75 per cent.
This latest diesel development is another milestone for Mercedes Benz, having been the diesel power pioneer as early as 1936, when the company announced the first production diesel car in the world.
As well as the latest environmentally-friendly technology, every new S-Class sold through an authorised Mercedes Benz Retailer in the UK comes with a three-year unlimited mileage warranty as standard. All cars feature mobilo-life, which gives an unrivalled 30-year anti-corrosion cover and breakdown warranty.
The S-Class has established itself as the choice of executives and management personnel since its launch in 1965. To date, over 2.7-million S-Class have been sold around the globe. To underline this, the S-Class has been voted the Best Luxury Car in the Fleet Excellence Awards by the harshest of all critics - the votes were cast by fleet users. This is the sixth straight year the S-Class has taken the luxury crown.
After presenting the award Tristan Young, Fleet Week editor, said the votes "…prove that the S-Class is still the first choice for business luxury." He added: "Its stylish and classic looks combined with a stately drive and wide engine range have set a benchmark rivals have been unable to match."
Dermot Kelly, Managing Director of Mercedes Benz Car Group in the UK: "This award is very important to Mercedes Benz. It is voted for by those who expect the highest quality, luxury, comfort and customer service, yet without compromise - they have told us for the sixth year running that the S-Class is the best there is."
With a huge range, top class economy and sumptuous appointments, the new EU 4 compliant S 320 CDI retains its crown as the benchmark luxury saloon.
