Fans of the guttural growl made by a sporty V6 engine will rejoice that the C-Class Sports Coupé is now available in a new 3.2 litre guise. The familiar unit - already fitted to the saloon and estate variants - produces 218 hp and zips from 0 - 62.5 mph in just 7.7 seconds whilst top speed for the standard six-speed manual transmission is 154 mph. The car will cost £24,990 when it hits the road this spring. Technical details are available at the end of this release.New Sports Package For Estate And Saloon Avantgarde Models
In addition to last year’s C-Class range repositioning and TWINPULSE models, an attractive new Sports Package has been announced. Costing just £630, the most noticeable external change is new five-spoke 17" alloy wheels with low profile tyres. With 225/45 R17 rubber up front and wider and lower 245/40 R17 at the rear, the new rims draw attention to the wheelarch area. The arches have a fuller appearance than before because the suspension has been lowered 25 mm at the front and 15 mm at the rear.
This new suspension and larger tyres combine to give a more sporting, dynamic ride than previously. Coupled with larger brakes, the Sports Package offers enthusiastic drivers greater levels of grip than before (due to a larger tyre contact patch). The lower centre of gravity caused by the sporting suspension also helps with the car's handling characteristics. Ride comfort for more sedate progress is also retained at the usual high C-Class standards.
The larger brake discs (wider due to internal venting) are now also cross-drilled and clamped by callipers bearing Mercedes Benz badging. Apart from looking great, the brakes work more efficiently when hot, resisting fade. At the rear of the car, a stainless steel exhaust tailpipe adds to the enhancements. Six-cylinder engines have a re-tuned exhaust for a more sporting sound, and CDI models have two chromed downturned pipes.
Inside, new sports seats and door panels are trimmed in anthracite "Silverstone" fabric – with a racy chequered pattern. Anthracite leather is also optionally available. The steering wheel is the same three-spoke item already fitted to C-Class Sports Coupé models. Stainless steel rubber-studded pedals and special floor mats add to the high performance ambience.
For those with racing in their blood, the AMG Sports Package is also available. For £2,810 the kit includes the Sports Package with AMG alloy wheels replacing the five spoke items and AMG bodystyling.
All the cars mentioned in this release have the back-up to match their attractive prices and specifications. As well as a three year unlimited mileage warranty, all new A- and C-Classes bought in the UK from an authorised Mercedes Benz retailer have ASSYST variable service intervals, and the impressive mobilo-life package.
Offering 30 years of breakdown and anti-corrosion cover, mobilo-life helps keep running costs as low as possible. Coupled with impressive residual values, these Mercedes Benz cars make a great deal of sense whether a customer wants low whole life costs, excellent practicality, a high degree of safety, or prestige motoring, wrapped up in a great-looking package.
