This is the new McLaren 12C Spider, a 625PS convertible with Retractable Hard Top priced from £195,500.

The 12C Spider is powered by a V8 twin turbo which drives the rear wheels through a 7 Speed SSG dual-clutch transmission. The engine outputs 625PS (616BHP) which equates to 0-62 mph in 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 204 mph, which is slightly slower than the coupe. A clear view of the 12C Spider’s engine is available through a glass screen positioned behind the solid tonneau cover.

Rather than a fabric soft top the 12C Spider features a Retractable Hard Top which operates via a switch in the lower section of the central console – it takes 17 seconds to raise or lower and can operate at speeds up to 19 mph. Behind the driver and passenger sits a rear windscreen which may also be electronically lowered and raised. With the roof lowered this acts as wind deflector to minimise disturbance to the 12C Spider’s occupants – it can be lowered with the roof in place.

The McLaren 12C Spider’s launch colour is Volcano Red, as shown in the photograph above – should you prefer you can select 17 exterior paint finishes including Volcano Yellow.  Semi-aniline perforated leather and Alcantara may be selected in a variety of combinations to suit an owner’s personal taste.

First deliveries are planned for November 2012 but you better be quick if you want to order 12C Spider as the order book is already growing.
