Mazda has announced a recall of some previous generation Mazda3 and Mazda3 MPS models, due to a possible problem with the front windscreen wipers. Models affected were produced between 7th January - 22nd December 2008.
Reports first reached Hiroshima of front wiper failure in a Mazda3 in the US, with the affected vehicle had a film of oxide around the wiper motor's ground wire contact point, which causes a loss of contact. It was found that the ground terminal could possibly be deformed during assembly of the wiper motor, and this was corrected on the parts production line.
Similar reports since have been mininmal, however, Mazda has decided to recall the models in order to unsure quality and customer satisfaction. Owners in Europe who have been affected will be notified in writing by mid-July, and will be asked to bring their car to an authorised dealership, with the fix being applied at no charge.
