The Range Rover Sport Diesel Hybrid is powered by 3-litre SDV6 diesel engine (as used on other models) combined with a 35kW electric motor which has been integrated into the the 8-speed automatic transmission.
The electric motor delivers 170Nm torque which can drive the Hybrid Sport along at speeds of up to 30 mph for a distance of around a mile. When coupled to the diesel engine it boost acceleration, the change between EV model and Hybrid is seamless - when the electric motor is not needed it charges the on-board liquid cooled battery pack is mounted beneath the floor of the vehicle in a protective boron-steel cradle.
When coupled with the diesel engine it produces a combined 340PS at 4,000rpm and delivers 700Nm torque between 1,500-3,000rpm, which gives roughly the same performance as the SDV8 powered Sport.
Acceleration is 0-62 mph in 6.7 seconds with a top speed of 140 mph - combined CO2 emissions are 169 g/km and on the official combined cycle 44.1 mpg has been recorded.
The Range Rover Sport Hybrid retains its four-wheel drive system including Terrain Response2, with the same wading and ground clearance.
