Gaydon, Warwickshire, 18 July 2002 – The new Range Rover from Land Rover has been named as Best 4x4 Off-Roader in the Auto Express New Car Honours. The citation for the award announced that: ‘The no compromises off-roader has just arrived.’
The all-new Range Rover – the third new model in its 30-year history – is built around an extremely rigid monocoque body shell that gives precise handling and sublime refinement. Powered by either a 4.4 litre V8 petrol or 3.0 litre diesel engine, the new Range Rover has a breadth of capability that covers both outstanding on-road performance and matchless off-road confidence. Auto Express said of its performance: ‘the Range Rover combines on-road sophistication with peerless off-road ability that defines the word refinement.’
The stylish interior, combining classic leather with elegant materials and veneers, also won praise from Auto Express: ‘Where its contemporaries pack their interiors with phoney wood and ruched leather in an effort to generate a luxury feel, the Range Rover does it without breaking sweat.’
Commenting on the Award, Mike Wright, managing director of Land Rover UK, said: ‘Everyone at Land Rover is delighted to receive this award from Auto Express. The new Range Rover is proving to be a tremendous sales success and the New Car Honour is a great recognition of its attributes. The latest model moves the unique qualities of its predecessors into a new dimension, and remains peerless as the luxury car that is also a genuine off-roader.’
