Kia has reported strong sales figures for June 2011, with 216,106 vehicles sold worldwide, representing a 17.4 per cent increase compared to 2010.

The sales performance has taken half year sales to 1,204,117, a 19.8 per cent increase compared to the same period for 2010.

North America saw the biggest sales increase, at 28 per cent, followed by China with 26.6 per cent, and Europe with 24.8 per cent.

North America also recorded the highest increase for the half year, with sales reaching 278,199, a 41 per cent increase. Europe took 228,130 sales, a 17.2 per cent increase.

Senior Executive Vice President and COO of Kia Motors Corporation, Thomas Oh said: "Our June sales were quite encouraging as it allowed us to surpass the one million unit global sales mark by quite a wide margin and that puts us well on track to reach our 2011 global target of 2.345 million.

"As we go into the second half we expect our new Picanto and Rio models to contribute strongly as they arrive in showrooms around the world and additionally I believe we will benefit from the start of production of the all-new Optima at our georgia production plant in the United States," he added.
