The new Jaguar XJ 2.7 Diesel picked up the award of Diesel Car of the Year at the Scottish Car of the Year Awards 2005, held at the St Andrews Bay Hotel, on Friday 21 October.

Members of the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers voted the XJ Diesel top in the Diesel category because of its driving dynamics, precise handling and impeccable refinement. Jaguar was also short-listed in the Best Luxury Car Segment with the X-TYPE Estate.

Jaguar's Director of Design, Ian Callum, said, "When I started at Jaguar six years ago, we didn't offer any diesel engines in our model range. Now we offer a diesel alternative across our entire saloon range, two of which were nominated as finalists in this category. This is the XJ 2.7 Diesel’s first major award following on from the success of the S-TYPE in this category last year and I'm sure it won't be its last."

Jaguar has a successful role of honour at the Scottish Car of the Year awards, with the S-TYPE Diesel winning the diesel category and the X-TYPE Estate winning best luxury car in 2004; the XJ also won the luxury car category in 2003 and the X-TYPE won the overall prize in 2001, following the triumph of the S-TYPE in 1999.

Commenting on the XJ Diesel win, President of the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers Ally Ballingall said, "The ASMW members considered the Jaguar XJ to be the most deserving of this prestigious award, it is whisper quiet, suitably speedy and exceptionally frugal, the 2005 Scottish Diesel Car of the Year is an exceptional vehicle in every way."

Jaguar also achieved success in the J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study released in May in the US. Improving to second place overall, Jaguar topped the poll as the highest-ranked European nameplate. Jaguar's Halewood plant, where the X-TYPE is manufactured, also received J.D. Power's Gold Award for European plant performance.

Customers purchasing any new XJ until 31 December 2005 are entitled to a free five year/50,000 mile Service Pack. The offer covers scheduled servicing and associated parts and is available from participating dealers.
