The 2011 New York Auto Show has seen the 2012 Jaguar XF compact saloon unveiled, featuring fresh styling, new technologies and an entry-level powertrain to make the XF the most efficient Jaguar to date.
With design cues from the Jaguar XJ, the new Jaguar XF features an all new front end with slim headlights, with LED lighting strips that sit either side of a larger more upright grille. A more pronounced, wider bulge runs down the centre of the lower bonnet.
The rear light units have been redesigned employing LEDs. The units now extend further into the boot lid with a new chrome blade that sits below the Jaguar leaper badge.
The interior has received subtle revisions, including a restyled steering wheel and revised switchgear for the ventilation systems and an all new colour central and dial mounted screen display new navigation and entertainment software. The seats have been redesigned offering more support.
A four cylinder engine is being made available for the new Jaguar XF for the first time. A 2.2 litre common rail diesel engine produces 190PS and 332lbs ft of torque and is mated to a new eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox with a Stop-Start system - the first time a device like this has been fitted to a Jaguar. As a result, fuel consumption on the combined cycle is over 50mpg and CO2 emissions are 149g/km.
The 3.0-litre V6 diesel engines are still available in 240 PS and 275 PS Diesel S form. The petrol range features a pair of V8 engines which develop 385 PS and, in the supercharged Jaguar XFR 510 PS.
Jaguar XF Diesel S models benefit from upgrades which include full aerodynamic styling, adaptive dynamic suspension (as on the jaguar XFR) and an 'R' performance interior.
The top of the range Jaguar XFR now features three airdams at the front of the car and a set of cooling vents set into the bonnet either side of the central bulge.
Across the Jaguar XF range new sound deadening material is utilised as are active engine mounts for the diesel engines.
The new jaguar XF will go on sale in September 2011, price start at £30,950 for the 2.2 litre diesel engine and rise to £65,350 for the top of the range Jaguar XFR.
