You know you’ve heard it somewhere before … "I’m sticking with you, ’cos I’m made out of glue, anything that you might do, I’m gonna do too."
Yes it’s the music from the Hyundai five year warranty advert, currently on TV screens around the UK. And to answer the question everyone’s been asking; the song is called ‘I’m Sticking With You’ by the Velvet Underground.
Sung by Maureen Tucker and featuring on the Velvets’ 1993 album VU, the song has prompted more than a thousand enquiries to Hyundai Car (UK) Ltd head office from people keen to find out who the singer is, and where they can get a copy.
Although the song is not yet available as a single, Hyundai and advertising agency Leagas Delaney are now lobbying the record company to have ‘I’m Sticking With You’ released as a single.
Hyundai chose the song for the advert to demonstrate the importance of maintaining relationships – as the company plans to do with its customers thanks to the launch of Britain’s first five year, across the range warranty.
One couple liked the song so much, they played it as they got married! Julie Fennell and Paul Succon from Rayleigh in Essex had the tune playing as they walked down the aisle last Friday (30 August).
Julie said: "I heard it on the advert and I thought the words really fitted in with the wedding. I sung it to Paul a few times, and we really liked it. The record shop I bought it from said they’d had quite a few people asking for it."
She added the song fitted in with the fun theme of the wedding – which featured a bouncy castle and magician, and served up bangers and mash, and fish and chips!
Julie added: "We wanted the wedding to be really ‘up’ in feel, and the song tied in with that."
Hyundai will keep you informed if and when ‘I’m Sticking With You’ is released as a single – so watch this space!
