Talented chef Marcus Eaves received an extra special course when he won the Gordon Ramsay Scholar Award 2004 - a brand new Hyundai Getz!
And as Marcus hasn’t yet passed his driving test, Hyundai has also secured free lessons for him with driver training experts BSM until he reaches test standard.
Marcus, 23, beat off hundreds of young hopefuls to win the prestigious award – which was announced at a glittering ceremony at Claridges in London.
The final 10 chefs competed against each other in a grand ‘cook off’ at The Restaurant Show at Olympia. None of them knew which ingredients they would be cooking with, and had the pressure of Gordon Ramsay breathing down their necks, while paying attention to style, presentation and getting the best from their ingredients.
Hyundai became the first non-catering sponsor of the Gordon Ramsay Scholar Award, and Marcus won himself a Getz 1.1 GSI worth £6,995.
Marcus, who is Sous Chef at Hibiscus restaurant in Ludlow, said: "Winning the award hasn’t even sunk in! Hopefully this will move my career forward - my ambition is to own my own restaurant by my late 20s, or become a head chef at a top restaurant.
"I am really looking forward to driving my Hyundai Getz, they look like really smart little cars!"
Marcus was also delighted that BSM would be providing him with driving lessons. The UK’s largest driving school, BSM has an unrivalled reputation for teaching new drivers, with a national network of more than 3,000 instructors operating from 109 high street centres across the country.
Gordon said: "We were delighted to welcome Hyundai in as a sponsor of the awards. The scheme is our way of helping the next generation of young chefs achieve their ambitions."
Gordon Ramsay has arguably become Britain’s best known restaurant owner, through Channel 4’s Kitchen Nightmares and ITV1’s Hell’s Kitchen. His no-nonsense style has won him fans across the world, with Gordon currently in negotiations to take Hell’s Kitchen to the USA.
The Getz is the best selling Hyundai in the UK, and comes with the company’s pioneering five year, unlimited mileage, fully transferable warranty.
