Honda gave the new Civic Type-S Sports Hatchback its world debut at the British International Motor Show in Birmingham today.
The new 5-door hatchback, to be manufactured in Swindon, will be exclusively for the UK market, and is aimed at those wanting hard-driving thrills but in a more sophisticated and comfortable style.
Powered by a 2-litre16-valve VTEC engine, the new Civic has a top speed of 130 mph and accelerates from 0-62 mph in 8.5 seconds, placing it well into ‘hot hatch’ territory.
Sales begin on 1 January 2003, but visitors to the show will get a sneak preview of one of the most appealing sports compacts on the UK market.
Also on the Honda stand, receiving its UK debut, is the new Accord. The new car, available in five different models, will be on sale in Spring 2003.
A Honda spokesman said the new Accord will be faster, better equipped, more economical and more affordable than all its competitors.
