The new FR-V diesel, on sale from 1 September has been given extremely competitive insurance ratings. Thatcham has granted the Sport model an 11E rating and the SE attracts an even lower group 10E.
Faster cars can often mean higher premiums but in the case of the FR-V diesel more is less; the 2.2 i-CTDi unit has 251 lbs ft of torque, boasts 140 bhp and yet costs no more to insure than its 2.0 equivalent.
The low insurance groupings are matched by low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions (167g/km) meaning reduced road tax (group E diesel) and with combined fuel economy of 44.8 miles per gallon this six-seater is even lighter on the pocket at the pumps.
These ratings have been helped by the FR-V’s excellent security features, all standard equipment throughout the range. The interior and perimeter are protected by a Thatcham certified Category 1 alarm system whilst the load bay is covered from prying eyes by a versatile tonneau cover. Other security measures include Honda’s Superlock system, rolling code engine immobiliser and integrated CD audio unit.
Active safety features will have also played a part in cutting premiums: ABS, EBD, Emergency Brake Assist and VSA are all standard on 2.2 i-CTDi models.
