Over 500 people have already placed orders for the new Civic Type R - more than ten per cent of Honda’s annual sales target for the hot hatch.
Pricing for the latest Honda to wear the famous ‘Red H’ badge was announced last month, since when dealers have been busy taking deposits. Deliveries to early order customers will start from the official on sale date, 1 March.
Most buyers are opting for the higher-spec GT model, endorsing Honda’s ‘rawfined’ direction, which combines blistering performance with improved levels of usability. Four out of five customers have chosen the model with more creature comforts, showing that hot hatch buyers now desire practicality as well as thrills.
The Civic Type R costs £17,600 in standard trim, with the GT model priced at £18,600. Honda hopes to sell 5,000 of the Swindon-built cars during 2007.
Insurance grouping for the car was also confirmed this month. All Civic Type Rs find themselves in Group 17E.
