Gentex Corporation, the leading supplier of automatic-dimming rear-view mirrors to the worldwide automotive industry, announced that it was recently recognised by Honda with a 2007 “Excellence in Quality and Delivery” award. Auto-dimming mirrors automatically darken to reduce glare from the headlamps of vehicles approaching from the rear.
During the 2007 model year, Gentex began shipping auto-dimming mirrors to Honda in North America for the 2007 Acura MDX. This was the company’s first business with Honda in North America.
“Being recognised by Honda after just one year of supplying product in North America to the automaker was especially gratifying to the Gentex design, testing, manufacturing and logistic teams,” stated Gentex chairman of the board and chief executive officer Fred Bauer. “It was noted that product received from Gentex had zero defects and zero issues with delivery.”
The award was presented by Honda at its Annual Supplier Conference in March 2008. Out of over 600 suppliers, only 14 “double awards” were given out. Possible “double awards” include Quality & Delivery, Delivery & Productivity, or Productivity & Quality.
“Honda has been recognised as one of the highest quality automakers in the world,” said Bauer. “We are proud to be recognised by Honda as being one of its best suppliers.”
Founded in 1974, Gentex Corporation is an international company that provides high-quality products to the worldwide automotive industry and North American fire protection market. Based in Zeeland, Michigan in the USA, the company develops, manufactures and markets interior and exterior automatic-dimming automotive rear-view mirrors that utilise proprietary electrochromic technology to dim in proportion to the amount of headlight glare from trailing vehicle headlamps. Many of the mirrors are sold with advanced electronic features, and approximately 96 per cent of the company’s revenues are derived from the sales of auto-dimming mirrors to nearly every major automaker in the world.
