Ease of Use

It is easy to get in and out of the Honda Accord Tourer, especially when compared to its arch rival the Mazda6 Estate. The driving position is good but we absolutely hate the seat lever recline as it is very difficult to adjust and find the optimum driving position.

All around vision is very good especially when compared to the Mazda6, as the front 'A' pillars are narrower. Parking and reversing is easy, with good rear vision and our test car had the navigation pack, which is equipped with a reversing camera.

It does feel a little cramped in the rear and we are sure that adults would feel a little restless in the on a long journey.

The Honda Accord Tourer's rear seats fold flat on a 60/40 basis - the boot is not that big at 460 litres when compared to the Mazda6 Estate at 519 litres or the Ford Mondeo at 542 litres. It is fractionally less then the Saloon model and less than the outgoing model. We also found the opening between the rear wheels very narrow, hampering the carrying of large flat loads.

There is a false boot floor covering a number of useful storage compartments, the boot floor can be folded up in various stages to stop luggage from sliding about.

When we last tested the Honda Accord Tourer it had a powered boot/hatchback, this time it is a manual affair but it has been designed for left and right handed people.

Safety and Security

All Honda Accord Tourers feature front seatbelt pre-tensioners and load limiters, dual stage front airbags, driver and front passenger side airbags, full length curtain airbags and ISOFIX fittings and top tether anchor points for child seats.

The side airbags now have a dual chamber designed to offer optimum protection for the pelvis and the torso. As offset frontal impacts can lead to a rebound where there are strong lateral forces, the curtain airbags are now deployed to protect occupants' upper bodies in such situations. The front passenger seat airbags can be deactivated when using a childseat and the airbag status is displayed in the information display in the centre console.

Our Honda Accord Tourer test car was fitted with VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist) (ESP) - cleverly Honda have developed 'Motion Adaptive EPS', it detects instability in slippery conditions both during cornering and under braking and automatically initiates steering inputs aimed at prompting the driver to steer in the correct direction.

The Honda Accord Saloon has been awarded 5 stars under the Euro NCAP programme. The 5 stars replaces the previous rating system, where the Honda Accord had a 5 star adult occupant, 4 star child occupant and 3 star pedestrian protection scores.

Deadlocks, an immobilizer and an interior and perimeter alarm (CAT 1) are standard.
