Britain's best-selling Ford Transit will be available with a new 85PS engine next month, in response to growing demand from British businesses for more power in their commercial vehicles. The new engine is another product from Ford's Dagenham plant. It will be a £250.00 (rrp) option over the 75PS versions of the front wheel drive extensive Ford Transit range.
The new engine has an intercooler and in addition to developing 10PS extra power, the all-important torque figure is increased by 36 per cent (50Nm), to a maximum of 230Nm at 2250 rev/min. The operator benefits from significantly improved performance and economy.
The torque increase allows a higher rear axle ratio to be specified which in addition to improved performance and driveability, improves economy up to seven per cent over the 75PS engine.
