Thea Bristow from Torquay has become Lotto’s biggest female publicity winner, after scooping an incredible £15 million Lotto Superdraw jackpot on Saturday 24 July 2004. Top of the shopping list for the delighted winner are driving lessons, a Ford Streetka for when she passes her test and a Ford Ranger Thunder for husband Paul.
Thea bought her winning ticket while on a day trip to London. She said: "I was in London with my mother visiting my aunt when I had a text from Paul reminding me to buy a ticket. I spotted a newsagent, so I popped in and bought the tickets. It was so late when we got back that it was not until the next morning that I remembered to check.
Thea did not tell anyone about her win until later in the afternoon. She explains: "I wanted to tell Paul first and I really couldn’t phone him, so I tried to put the win to the back of my mind and carry on with preparing Sunday lunch. I still didn’t tell Paul until we left my mothers and were on our own in the car. Then I made him pull over before I told him my fantastic secret."
When asked why Ford's? Paul commented: "I'm a life-long Ford fan. I've tried other cars but they just don't make the grade with me." Paul, Scout Leader at 1st Torbay cub scouts pack, continued "The Ranger Thunder looks great with all the chrome styling and will be practical for my outdoor activities and camps with the kids. Thea loves the look of the cute Streetka".
