It’s already Britain’s favourite car, the UK’s best selling fleet car and now it’s also Britain’s best used diesel car – the Ford Focus has scooped the award for ‘Best Diesel Car’ in the Auto Express Used Car Honours.

The TDCi-powered Focus was selected for its ideal combination of performance, economy, refinement and strong residual value, according to judges from Auto Express magazine and Glass’s Guide.

The award coincides with the news that Ford’s approved used car division, Ford Direct, sold more diesel-engined cars last year than ever before, with the popularity and availability of the state-of-the-art TDCi engine range boosting sales to 31,000 vehicles. The TDCi range accounted for 3,100 vehicles, 10 per cent of Ford Direct’s total used car sales in 2003.

Ford Direct brand specialist, Jason Themistocleous, collected the award, commenting: "The popularity of TDCi is unparalleled with our sales growing 30 per cent year on year. To top that with this award is a fantastic endorsement of Focus TDCi as a used buy."

13,521 Ford Focus models were sold through Ford Direct in 2003. Ford Direct was first established in 1993 and since launch has delivered over a quarter of a million approved used cars and commercial vehicles.
